In Kdenlive, I am using a smaller resolution of 352x288. In my case to get 25 fps with my Logitech c270 webcam, that resolution is 800x448 or lower. In order to get a real life (or even a decent) video recording, I have to lower the resolution setting of the webcam in Kdenlive (or any other webcam app) to where I can get at least 20 fps or higher. For instance my webcam can record at a resolution of 1280 x 720 but only at 10 fps (frames per second) which is not "real life" which is 25 fps or higher. In fact, it would "crash" if I tried that may not be the case for you.

I found that Kdenlive on my extremely outdated, under powered, computer would not record my webcam at the higher resolutions that it is capable of doing. But, I will explain how to use Kdenlive with your webcam below. And, you have not said whether or not you have done that?Īlthough you can use Kdenlive to record from your webcam, you might find it easier to use one of the other webcam applications to record video, then use Kdenlive for editing that video. The first thing to try, is to see if any webcam application recognizes your webcam and works. And, you can copy the commands directly from here and then paste it into your console terminal. You should not be very concerned about running console terminal commands suggested by people in this forum because we would not tell you to run something that would hurt your system, or incur the "wrath of the Computer Devil" as you put it. Found this in part of the result, which looks to have some reference a "camera" But being a newbie don't know what to do with this info.īFunctionSubClass 3 Video Interface CollectionĬan this info be used in any way to make Kdenlive recognise my webcam Assume it's a complete xray of my computer. And, not all webcams work with Linux Mint, although most do.Īnother great webcam software is "guvcview" which can record video with audio whereas "Cheese" only records video or pictures. I agree with user "BG405" that it is probably easier to record your webcam using one of the many webcam applications that are available, like "Cheese" which is in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM), then edit the video using "Kdenlive".

I always recommend to others that you also install all the recommended and suggested packages for "Kdenlive" in the Synaptic Package Manager (SPM), by right clicking "Kdenlive". Great choice using "Kdenlive" for a video editor. I will assume that you have installed the multi-media codecs during installation of Linux Mint? And to check if the webcam is USB running the "lsusb" command and posting the results of that too. If you run " inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information. It would help to know more about your system setup. I just read your post and the good reply to it. Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !
